Balangay Is a New Pop-Up Eatery Serving Filipino Fare Near RiverPoint
Balangay by Chef Wing, located inside Bullfrog Bagels at 1341 H Street NE in DC, is the newest Filipino pop-up restaurant in town! Serving traditional cuisine of the Philippines, along with cocktails and happy hour, Balangay opened in October by chef Erin “Wing” Villarias. Balangay’s à la carte menu includes artistic takes on classic Filipino bar bites, like chicken-stuffed lumpia, pancit, grilled eggplant, fried chicken adobo, and grilled chicken Inasal. Not sure what to order? Choose a team favorite, the ensaladang talong, with smoked grilled eggplant, red onions, pea shoots, crispy uca flakes, and black dressing, or the chef’s special, a portabella burger with moringa mayo, pickled papaya, cucumber, and a side of purple yam chips. On the bar menu, try a cocktail with squid ink, as well as craft beverages!
Open for dine-in and takeout, The Balangay pop-up operates Thursday through Sunday from 5 to 10 p.m., with Happy Hour from 5 to 6 p.m. On Sundays, only bar bites are available on the menu, though Happy Hour runs all day.
